Hey, all you American Idol degenerates – thank you

The bad kids always go to summer school.

The bad kids always go to summer school.

American Idol Season 13 is over, Caleb Johnson is our winner, I’m mildly very hungover and the first season of the Dudes Review Idol is in the bag. I only have one thing left to say.

Thank you.

This isn’t going to be a pat-on-the-back, look-how-awesome-I-am post. Basically, it will be unlike anything I’ve posted on the site.

I just wanted to says thanks to everyone who has read, everyone who has tweeted and everyone who accidently stumbled on here wondering why they hell is some dude writing about American Idol.

This all started by accident. We had another outlet that just wasn’t doing what I wanted and even last year when I started live-Tweeting, it wasn’t what I wanted to get across. It was rough at first, especially when I had single-digit followers and nobody was reading the site.

But you, my readers/followers, made it fun. It was cool to interact with people who approached the show the same way I did – minus the rampant alcohol consumption – and even when I got into it with people on Twitter, debates usually concluded with people understanding I’m not just spouting off at the mouth.

I’ve always felt entertainment writing is filled with nothing but ass kissing or nothing but cheap shots. I wanted to do something a little different and while it took some time, I felt it resonated with a lot of you and nothing excited me more than hearing from you about what I wrote.

The site isn’t perfect. I’ll work on making it better, both to look at and to read. I need continuity to make it more appealing to my readers. I’m not the most technically savvy guy, so I’m hoping by the start of Season 14 I’ll have what I need.

I want to keep blogging about American Idol in the off-season. I have some plans.

First, I’m taking the rest of the month off. My family is moving into a new home and between work, kids and getting the house in order, there won’t be time to go crazy.

Starting in June, I’m going to come out with my picks for the Top 30 American Idol performances of all times. I’ve started a list of performances I enjoyed, but please, let me know what you think needs to be on the list. My weaknesses are Seasons 2-5, so if anyone can lend their expertise there, I’d love to hear from you. If there’s a performance that you think flew under the radar, let me know; if there’s a performance from a performer you think is better than the one everyone considers great, let me know; if you want to tell me about Sanjaya’s best, GFY (just kidding; I’ll listen. Then GFY).

Best way to contact me is on Twitter – we’re right here – or by email, dudesreviewidol@yahoo.com.

I’ll probably end up doing a lot of lists this summer, so if you have any ideas for Idol things I should rank/write about, hit me up.

My other goal is to attend one of the live shows, likely in Boston. Would love to have a pre-show party at a bar near the venue. Would really love to get credentialed and write about the show, but I’m not sure how Idol works with all of that.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I feel like this is the end of the school year and I’m going away for the summer. We’ll all be back together before we know it. KIT, TTYL and all those other letters.

-Dude

PS This wouldn’t be Dudes Review Idol unless I mentioned this is the 69th post I’ve written this season. 69. Ha. Get it?
